The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability analysis of criminal justice and people with disability established that people with disability are significantly over-represented at all stages of the criminal justice process in Australia. It further established the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are disproportionately represented in adult prisons and youth detention when compared with non-Indigenous Australians.
